Grief

Grief is a natural reaction to a painful loss. It is a normal part of our emotions. Grief is most closely associated with the loss of someone through death - bereavement. Grief can also occur through major changes and losses in our lives, such as

separation and divorce,
moving or migrating,
changing or losing a job,
children leaving home

Grief is a very personal and individual experience. Some of the physical and emotional symptoms of grief include:

loss of appetite,
crying,
sleep problems,
loneliness,
anger,
fear,
guilt,
rage and resentment,
confusion,
deep and continuous sadness,
loss of interest in activity

Sometimes these feelings and behaviours are not recognised as grief. Other times the rest of the world seems to have "moved on", but the pain of the loss is still felt strongly by the individual. Sometimes a loss is not recognised as a loss and therefore any grief we are feeling is not accepted as being legitimate.
